Robert Adams
Robert Adams was born in 1791 somewhere in Ireland and died on January 13th, 1875 in Dublin.
He was a clinician noted for his contributions to the knowledge of heart disease and gout. In 1827 he described a condition characterized by a very slow pulse and by transient giddiness or convulsive seizures, now known as the Adams-Stokes disease or syndrome.
Educated at Trinity College, Dublin, Adams studied medicine in Europe and then returned to Dublin, where he established his practice and served as surgeon to the Jervis Street and Richmond hospitals. In 1861 he was appointed surgeon to the queen in Ireland and regius professor of surgery at the University of Dublin.
